This version of a classic Russian dish is easy to prepare and ready as a tasty, complete meal in no time.

  • 1 lb. beef steak, thin 1 – 1 1/2 inch long strips
  • 1/2 cup onion, chopped
  • 8 oz. mushrooms, sliced
  • 1 cup sour cream
  • 6 tbsp. butter
  • 1/8 tsp. nutmeg
  • 1/2 tsp. tarragon
  • parsley
  • salt
  • pepper


  1. Melt 3 tbsp. butter over medium heat, add beef, and cook until brown. While beef is cooking, add salt and pepper (to taste). Set cooked beef aside.
  2. Add onions to the same pan and cook for a few minutes. Remove and keep with beef.
  3. Melt 3 more tbsp. butter in same pan, and add mushrooms. Cook for 4-6 minutes. Half-way through cooking, add the nutmeg and tarragon to mushrooms.
  4. Add sour cream to mushrooms and stir thoroughly over low heat. Thin sauce with water if you think necessary.
  5. Mix beef and onions with mushrooms/sour cream. Add salt and pepper to taste.
  6. Serve over cooked egg noodles and garnish with parsley. Done!
